Visiting Iraq's Kurdistan Region by Delegation of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences during April 23rd-25th, 2019


Given the geopolitical and geostrategic position of Kermanshah Province, as well as sharing common borders and having cultural and linguistic similarities with the northern provinces of Iraq, there is an increased need for expansion of scientific relations and cooperation between the universities of Iran and Iraq, especially in the field of food and drug export and import. Therefore, after coordination with the respective ministry and consulate of Iran in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah and Representative of the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan in Iran, permission was granted for travel of representatives of this university to Iraq’s Kurdistan Region with the subject of attending the international exhibition for medical & pharmaceutical industry in Erbil, assessment of export strategies for Iranian drugs and import of some of the drug items required in the country due to sanctions, and evaluation of methods of use of food and drug laboratory of the university of medical sciences as a food and drug export quality control reference to the Kurdistan Region. On April 23rd, 2019, Dr. Ghobad Mohammadi, the vice-chancellor for food and drug of the university, Dr. Majid Mahmoudi, the vice president for food and drug and manager of the food and drug laboratory of the university, and Dr. Habib Ahmadi, the representative of the university in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, traveled to Sulaymaniyah with the car of Dr. Mohammadi. After a short stop, they continued their trip to Erbil and arrived in this city at night.

On Saturday, a meeting with the consulate was planned for 11:00 a.m., before which the representative of the university attended the international exhibition for the medical & pharmaceutical industry in Erbil. Several drug companies attended this exhibition from different countries, some of which were contacted by the representative of the university.




At 12:00 (local time), a meeting was held with Zarei and Karimi, two economic negotiators of the consulate, in the meeting room of the consulate of Erbil. On the evening of the same day, they traveled to Sulaymaniyah. On the next day, a meeting was held with the successor to the president of Sulaimaniyah consulate and his colleagues, where the guidance of these individuals was used. During the stay in Sulaimaniyah, a meeting was held with the manager and members of Lox Agency, which is responsible for the border laboratory of food and drug quality control of the climate, based in Parviz-Khan Border.
